Baby/Infant Massage

Complementary Medicine has received increasing attention in both lay and Professional forums.

Health Care Professionals enjoy the return to “Hands on Care” and will so extend their role to include some aspects of Complementary Medicine.  Many parents wish to become more actively involved with the care and development of their babies.  They may seek professional guidance and support to include baby massage as a part of their child care routine.  This fosters an increased partnership between parents and their health care professional or Complementary Medicine Practitioner.

Within this module, issues surrounding practice are reviewed and course participants will be able to evaluate whether the application of baby massage is appropriate for the assessed needs of each client.  In addition, they will share their learning experience with colleagues from different professional areas and backgrounds and create a firm base on which their own individual future learning experiences may be based.

Course aim

To introduce and develop the core themes with specific application to a practice related situation.

Course OUTCOMES

On successful completion of this module students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the structure and function of body systems relevant to baby massage.

  • Evaluate the importance of accurate assessment prior to the proposed treatment of baby massage.
