Reflexology/Personal Development

Edwina Hodkinson

Reflexology in Cancer Care

Many Reflexologists have  concerns and fears regarding working with people on the cancer journey and wonder how reflexology can help. This workshop focuses on addressing some of the myths, fears and issues of using reflexology with people with cancer and explores ways in which to work safely and potently with all patients. There is a focus on being able to adapt treatments to work with patients having chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery,  and those with palliative care needs and at the end of life. There will also be a practical session exploring light touch reflexology.

Edwina Hodkinson has worked with people with cancer for the past 26 years. First as a nurse, and then as a complementary practitioner. She has worked at a Hospice as a voluntary reflexologist for five years, was a founder member and clinical co-ordinator of complementary therapies at a Cancer Support Centre for three years. She currently works as deputy clinical lead for complementary therapies at a Cancer Hospital in the west of England, where she has been for the last three and a half years. Here she helps to lead a large award winning team of complementary therapists, focusing her clinical work on the critical care unit, adult leukaemia unit as well as with patients on chemotherapy and with palliative care needs. She is part of the complementary therapy teaching team here and has co- written chapters  in the books "Clinical Reflexology" and "Massage and Bodywork for People with Cancer. She also practises aromatherapy and natural healing and is currently taking a BSC hons degree in herbal medicine.
