Animal Aromatics
This course is designed to give back to people the responsibility of helping their animals by offering them plant extract and oils that would be similar to those that would be selected in the wild. The course will teach the animal owner to help with problems such as skin disorders, arthritis, wounds, immune deficiency, laminitis, behavioural problems and other common ailments. Basic kinesiology is also taught.
Students will also have the opportunity of helping animals in their care, so will need to bring some hair/fur to the class to work on using kinesiology with aromatics. There will be the opportunity for hands on practical work with animals in the classroom.
Key areas covered during the course include:
- Is animal self-selection in the wild differernt from domesticated animals?
- Dilutions for oral, inhalation and topical use
- Selecting remedies to match the animal's condition
- Understanding which aromatic extracts to choose in relation to the species
- Understanding primary and secondary metabolites
- Self selection, how reliable is it?
- Interpret animal responeses to aromatic extracts
- An introduction to kinesiology
- Allergy testing
- Understand pathways of application - olfactory, topical and oral
- Understand the safe use of essential oils in Animal Aromatics
Caroline Ingraham founded the first school of Animal Aromatherapy in 1995, is a world-wide authority and lecturer on plant oils for animals. She gives talks to professional bodies such as the British Holistic Veterinary Medicine Association and is the author of 'Aromatherapy for Horses', published by Kenilworth Press and the popular 'Animal Aromatics Workbook'. Caroline's pioneering work recently took her to Kenya where she worked with orphaned elephants at the Sheldrick Trust. She has demonstrated her work on many television documentaries, including a program with David Bellamy and a National Geographic presentation. She has also appeared on ITV in "Talking to Animals" and on Radio 4.
